Being offered for sale is the antique FIRMER CHISEL by THOMAS HEUSTON WITHERBY (weakly stamped, partial logo reads "T.H. WITHERBY" over "WARRANTED" within rectangle, at underside blade, see 2nd pic) manufactured by WINSTEAD EDGE TOOL WORKS of Winstead, Conn., circa the late 19th or very early 20th century (best guess as per internet research), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. CONDITION NOTES:

Very Good/VG+ antique condition with minor -to- moderate overall wear (small dings, dents, scuffs, scratches, stains, etc.) throughout from normal use over the years but NO breaks or repairs. Lightly cleaned using wire-wheel, so virtually zero rust but minor pitting throughout. Handle is solid & strong, firmly attached, features an iron end cap/collar (preventing splits/degradation of handle end) and has superb patina. Blade has been freshly sharpened and is more or less smooth, with just a few small imperfections (see pics 5, 9 & 10 for close-ups). Superb patina throughout. Great example of a fantastically aged collectible chisel!! See pics.

Measures 14-1/16" long, overall. Blade is 2" wide x 9-3/16" long, blade edge to socket end. Handle grip is 4-3/4" long (including 5/8" long iron end cap/collar) x 1-3/8" diameter, at fattest. Weighs 1 lb. 15.8 oz..
