Being offered for sale is the antique MORTISING / POST AXE by WILLIAM McKINNON (incised at one side of head, see 2nd pic) of Rockaway, N.J., from circa the mid 19th century (pre-1873 (year company name changed), as per info found at: https://www.craftsofnj.org/images/sitemedia/toolshed/Tool%20Shed%20No177-201409.pdf), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale as-found, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential.

CONDITION NOTES:

Very Good/VG+ antique condition with minor -to- moderate overall wear from normal use throughout but NO breaks or repairs. Very minimal zero rust but a few areas of moderate -to- severe pitting (see pics). Blade has a few tiny nicks but remains quite sharp. Handle looks to be very old, possibly original. It is locked in nice & tight with ZERO play/wobble. Killer, rare example! Ready to use or proudly display!! See pics.

 

DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT:

Measures 25-3/4" long, overall. Axe head is 8-5/8" wide, blade to butt. Blade edge is 2-5/16" long. Total weight is 4 lbs. 7.0 oz..
