Planes

Being offered for sale is the hard to find antique WOODEN COMPLEX COMBINATION MOLDING PLANE by "JOHN BELL" (incised at front, see 3rd & 4th pics) of Philadelphia, PA., circa late 19th or early 20th century (best guess...possibly a little older), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED or your money back...no questions asked!

Good/VG antique condition with minor -to- moderate overall wear but remains structurally rigid & strong. The blade has a nick at one corner (see 11th pic). Handle is removable (we are not sure if this is a defect or how it was intended). It stays locked solid in place when pushing, pulling and lifting but will fall out when plane is turned upside-down. All iron parts/plates have minor -to- moderate pitting but minimal rust throughout. All adjustable/removable parts are very stiff. The use of a rubber mallet was needed to remove the slide rail and the wedged-in blade (for inspection) and also needed when putting back together. The wood must have expanded. Would need fine-tuning to be a practical working tool (perhaps some greasing/oiling or maybe even sanding down the dowels...?...we leave this up to you). Perfect as it sits as a collector's/display/decor piece, as it has outstanding eye-appeal and gorgeous patina throughout. See pics.

Blade is 1/4" wide. Please see ruler in pictures for size/scale reference. Additional measurements shall be provided upon request. Weighs 4 lbs. 4.5 oz..
