Being offered for sale is the antique Wood, Steel, Aluminum & Brass STRONG BOX / CHEST / TRUNK No. 44 (tagged at front, see pics 1, 2 and/or 3) by "THE VANDERMAN MANUFACTURING CO." of Willimantic, Conn. (original embossed brass nameplate at front, see 4th pic for close-up) for "PROCTOR & SCHWARTZ INC." of Philadelphia, P.A. (weakly embossed aluminum nameplate at top/lid (see 6th pic for close-up)), from circa the late 19th or early 20th century (best guess based on the patent date of July 13, 1897 on Vanderman nameplate), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED or your money back...no questions asked!
Good/Very Good antique condition with minor -to- moderate overall cosmetic wear but remains structurally rigid & incredibly strong! Some damage to the original "feet" at underside (see last pic) but still sits flat/level with NO wobble. Interior has moderate wear from normal use over the years. The (2) thru-bolts, at the aforementioned broken/missing pieces of the "feet" at underside are just hanging loose (because they no longer have anything to hold onto) and a third thru-bolt's head is missing (shaft present and holding strong). All original hardware (hinges, side handles, latching system and all corner brackets) is present and fully functional. Features superbly rich patina to all materials throughout All-in-all, an extraordinary, hard to find strong box with tons of history and simply gorgeous eye-appeal!! See pics.
Measures 26-1/4" wide x 15" deep x 14-1/2" tall. Weighs a solid, shockingly heavy 53 lbs. 7.5 oz..
