Being offered for sale is the antique BROAD AXE (New York/Yankee pattern) stamped/by "J. HICKS" of Elizabethtown, N.J., from circa mid -to- late 19th century (best guess - no info found on this very rare maker), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. Repaired with a unique & very strong steel plate patch secured with (4) thru-bolts. Otherwise, Good/G+ antique condition with moderate overall wear from normal use over the years. Minimal rust but moderate pitting throughout. Blade has many tiny nicks along entire length but nothing too bad and remains quite sharp. Handle is either original or a very old replacement and remains structurally solid & strong (despite the splits at each side, near head - see pics) with head firmly attached. Clearly stamped "J. HICKS" at each side of head. Awesome broad axe by a very rare tool maker!! See pics.

Measures 20-1/4" long, overall. Handle is 19-1/4" long, from top of head. Head is 8" wide, butt to blade. Blade is 7-3/8" tall, point -to- point. Total weight is 5 lbs. 11.5 oz..
