Being offered for sale is the antique CUSTOM FORGED CHOPPER / CUTTER / MORTISING / SPLITTING or GRAFTING FROE / AXE / HATCHET / KNIFE (clearly, we have not been able to figure out exactly what this primitive tool's intended purpose is - please feel free to message us with any info you have) by unknown maker (no visible manufacturer/maker's mark(s) as side from the "W348" painted on by previous owner), from circa the mid to late 19th century (best guess), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED or your money back...no questions asked!
CONDITION NOTES:
Good antique condition with moderate -to- severe overall wear (dings, dents, scuffs, scratches, stains, etc.) throughout from normal use over the years but NO major breaks or repairs. Possibly missing handle from long portion and/or other parts/pieces. Present handle is quite worn with multiple large splits and is certainly on the fragile side. Features an unusual end-cap, which is an old 5 cent coin from Spain (see 2nd pic). Whether or not that is evidence of its origin is unknown. Minimal rust and pitting throughout. Blade is moderately sharp but could certainly use a fresh sharpening. See pics.
DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT:
Measures 18-1/2" long, overall. Blade is 10-1/4" tall x 2-1/2" wide at edge. Iron at handle(s) is 1/4" thick and just 1/8" thick at blade head (+/- 1/64", thickness varies slightly). Wood handle is 3-1/2" long. Weighs 1 lb. 12.2 oz..
