Being offered for sale is the antique PROSPECTING PICK-AXE stamped "HARDSOCG" (pronounced HARD-SOCK, first name Martin - 19th century inventor/manufacturer of coal mining tools, as per internet research) by MARTIN HARDSOCG CO. of Pittsburgh, PA (born in Germany, came to U.S.A. with parents when in his mid teens)  from circa the very late 19th or early 20th century (as per internet research), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. Good/VG antique condition with minor -to- moderate overall wear from normal use over the years but NO major breaks or repairs. Minimal rust (at top of blade, see 1st and last 2 pics) and light pitting throughout. Blade is nice & smooth with no nicks and is dull (as it is supposed to be). Handle looks to be original or very close in age, at the very least and is in great shape. Structurally solid & strong with head firmly attached. Extraordinary, simply gorgeous patina throughout. Measures 29-1/2" long, overall. Head is 11-3/8" wide. Blade is 1-7/8" long. Octagonal face is approx. 7/8" diameter. Total weight is 4 lbs. 0.5 oz..
