Being offered for sale is the antique, Civil War era "RICHARDSON PATENT WRENCH" (the first EVER ratcheting socket wrench patent! - patent no. 38,914) by J.J. RICHARDSON of Woodstock, VT, circa June 16, 1863 (patent-granted date, see last picture for a collage of images/info obtained from http://patft.uspto.gov/), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. One broken/missing tooth (see green arrow in 11th pic). It doesn't seem to affect the tool at all. Otherwise, Very Good antique condition with outstanding patina throughout. Fully functional tool with a nice crisp ratcheting sound. Originally came with (2) removable sockets in a wooden box, none of which is included. Tool only. Maker's mark is a bit faded but still completely visible (see 3rd pic). All in all, a fantastic example of a very hard to find old wrench!! See pics.

Measures 13-3/4" long, overall and has a 1" square drive. Weighs 2 lbs. 9.5 oz..
