Being offered for sale is the vintage, nearly antique "LEGITIMUS" FIRE AXE (Seagrave Pattern) with ORIGINAL RED HANDLE (**CRACKED** see green arrows in 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th pics) by COLLINS & CO. of Hartford, CONN., circa the 1920's (best educated guess), as seen in the pictures/as described in the title. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR CONDITION NOTES. Being offered for sale AS-FOUND, uncleaned. May require a thorough detailing to bring to its full potential. Again, handle is cracked (see green arrows in 4th, 6th, 7th & 8th pics). A replacement handle will be needed before it can be swung but it is perfect as-is for display/collecting purposes. The head has a fair amount of rust and moderate -to- severe pitting throughout. Previous owner's initials of "J.Z." are written in marker at one side. Blade edge is dull. Maker's mark is partially visible but some has worn away (see 2nd pic). See pics.
Measures 35-1/4" long, overall. Head is 12-5/8" wide x 5-1/16" tall (at edge). Total weight is 6 lbs. 12.5 oz. (axe head alone is 6 lbs.).
